The Academy provides its Section members a platform for professional development and international networking. The following Sections are a part of the AAP’s global and life support team:
Section on Global Health (SOGH)
SOGH strives to promote and lead efforts to help children throughout the world attain optimal physical, mental and social health and well-being through high quality education and training, effective partnerships and collaborations, and staunch advocacy for the world's children. More than half of their 1,000 members are pediatricians living and working outside the United States in more than 60 countries.
International Access to Child Health (ICATCH) Grant Program
ICATCH, a grantmaking program created by SOGH, provides financial and technical support to start or expand services or training that improve child health in a resource-limited community outside the US. ICATCH gives priority to applicants from low-income and low-middle-income countries and awards 3-year grants to empower pediatricians and child health workers across the world to put into practice their own innovative solutions to the child health challenges they face.
Section on International Medical Graduates (SOIMG)
SOIMG strives to optimize the skills and position of international medical graduates (IMG) to improve the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. This is accomplished by understanding and fulfilling the professional needs of AAP IMG members. SOIMG has over 1,300 members dedicated to issues including increasing the participation of IMGs in priority global health efforts and activities that support disaster relief.
Section on Simulation and Innovative Learning Methods (SOSILM)
SOSILM supports the education and research interests of AAP members engaged in simulation and innovative learning in order to attain optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
