Any amount of tobacco smoke exposure is dangerous to children and adolescents. Even when not directly using tobacco products themselves, kids face high risk of various illnesses due to exposure to secondhand and thirdhand smoke indoors. The AAP recommends policies to curb children’s exposure to tobacco smoke, including prohibitions on the use of electronic nicotine delivery systems (like e-cigarettes), which contain toxic and carcinogenic substances in addition to nicotine.
