Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are lifelong conditions, which means people with CHDs need specialty cardiac care across the lifespan. This specialty care is critical for maintaining overall health and avoiding adverse cardiac events. But because of barriers that physicians and people with CHDs face, many people don’t get the congenital cardiac care they need. It is important to improve the continuity of care between primary care and specialty cardiac care in order to help ensure that people with CHDs get the specialized care they need to stay healthy across the lifespan.
This multidisciplinary discussion content was recorded February 9, 2022 during a live session. It is intended to give pediatricians, obstetrician-gynecologists, internal medicine physicians, and emergency medicine physicians an opportunity to engage with each other to build knowledge, skills, and competence related to care coordination for people with CHDs.
