Pediatric obesity is a serious chronic disease that has both immediate and long-term impact on children and adolescents’ health. The latest evidence highlighted in the AAP Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Treatment of Children and Adolescents Obesity1 states that despite the complex nature of this disease, obesity treatment can be successful.
During the COVID-19 pandemic there was a documented increase in children with overweight and obesity further heightening the need to build capacity to effective assessment, evaluation, and treatment of pediatric overweight and obesity. The Treatment module will support building capacity at the point of care around the clinical practice recommendations in the CPG to specific to the longitudinal treatment of pediatric obesity in primary care. This CME module is complementary to the Assessment and Evaluation CME module. Learners are encouraged to take both. A comprehensive evaluation is critical to a successful treatment approach, and it is recommended that you take the Treatment module after Assessment and Evaluation module.
