Description

This course builds on the PediaLink course, Caring for Children and Adolescents with Tourette Syndrome, and is designed to provide clinicians with practical tips, knowledge, and resources to effectively diagnose Tourette Syndrome earlier and connect families/caregivers to needed supports and services.

The course will discuss opportunities to reduce disparities in early identification and access to care. Learners will be able to differentiate between other related tic conditions (compulsions, stereotypies, and other functional motor conditions), functional tic-like behaviors, and co-occurring conditions. This course will increase clinical care competence surrounding Tourette Syndrome and co-occurring conditions, thereby supporting efforts to improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss opportunities to reduce disparities in early identification of Tourette syndrome and referral to needed services and other specialists.
  • Distinguish tics from functional tic-like behaviors and motor function conditions (such as stereotypies and compulsions).
  • Describe strategies to provide appropriate supports and services, including school services, earlier for children/youth diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and co-occurring conditions.
