Description

​​This course is designed to provide clinicians with practical tips and resources to identify, diagnose, and provide or refer for, services to children and families with Fragile X syndrome. Clinicians will understand and identify family histories, physical characteristics and or/behavioral symptoms that might suggest the need for genetic testing. Participants will receive education on strengthening family partnerships and providing family-centered care to families of children with Fragile X syndrome.  Learners will listen to experts and family representatives involved with Fragile X and hear a question-and-answer session for additional education/awareness.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe strategies for pediatricians to identify and diagnose Fragile X Syndrome.
  • Identify techniques pediatricians can use to support families of children with Fragile X at the time of initial diagnosis and beyond (including genetics).
  • Identify and describe management treatment strategies for Fragile X, including behavioral and pharmacological - based management.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

This program is accredited for 1.00 NAPNAP CE contact hours of which 0.00 contain pharmacology (Rx) content, (0.00 related to psychopharmacology) (0.00 related to controlled substances), per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines. The AAP is designated as Agency #A17. Upon completion of the program, each participant desiring NAPNAP contact hours must send a completed certificate of attendance to [email protected]. Payment of $15 for NAPNAP members and nonmembers is required via credit card for all NAPNAP contact hour requests. Keep this certificate for your records for six (6) years.
