About COICFH

The Council on Immigrant Child and Family Health (COICFH) was created in July 2019. The Council is comprised of approximately 300 AAP members who are committed to promoting the care of immigrant children and youth.

The COICFH was born out of the work started in 2012 by the Immigrant Health Special Interest Group (SIG) that was under the auspices of the Council on Community Pediatrics. The Council will build upon and continue the work of the SIG by advancing the care of children in immigrant families through practice, policy, education and advocacy.

The Council seeks to help pediatricians build their competency to enhance care for immigrant children using cultural humility and safety and advocates for policies that promote the health, well-being and safety of immigrant children and youth. The Council actively engages federal officials, leaders of child welfare and immigration policy organizations and the media to support its efforts.

The COICFH is led by an 11-member Board appointed Executive Committee.
