The Section’s area of expertise is the administration and management of the business functions of pediatric practice. Excellent business function affects the practice’s ability to provide excellent clinical services. The Section strives to promote the best and most effective economic and operational health of Academy members’ practices in their effort to provide optimal health care for all children.
Business functions include, but are not limited to, financial management, contracting with insurance companies, contracting with physicians and physician extenders, employment, staff support and services, business and information technology, equipment and clinical technology, purchasing and inventory management, organization and operation.
Knowledge and expertise in administration and practice management is necessary not just for pediatricians in independent practice, but also for academic and employed pediatricians, residents, fellowship trainees, and medical students.
Vision Statement
It is the vision of the AAP Section on Administration and Practice Management (SOAPM) that all members of the Academy have the opportunity to attain and sustain professional fulfillment in administration and practice management. Through the recognition of best practices, educational opportunities, and the establishment of an open forum for discussion and dissemination of practical, effective strategies, SOAPM will enable its membership to improve practice management in pediatrics.
Mission Statement
It is the mission of SOAPM to impart both basic and cutting edge administrative and practice management innovations that will improve the state of pediatric administration and practice management for its membership and members of the AAP. SOAPM will accomplish this mission by dedicating its talent, skills, and resources to educating and serving its membership.
The SOAPM currently is working to increase residents' awareness of practice management and to enhance the benefits to its affiliate membership of practice managers, pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners.
