About SOIMG

The Section on International Medical Graduates (SOIMG), formed in July 2014, is a multidisciplinary Section that represents and promotes the interests of physicians who graduated from medical schools outside of the United States and Canada. The Section is also open to graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada who are interested in matters pertaining to IMGs.

The Section on International Medical Graduates' mission is to improve the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults by uniting the US and International Medical Graduates to be strong advocates for children.

All AAP Members with an interest in International Medical Graduates issues are welcome to join us in accomplishing the mission and goals of the Section. Let us answer your questions as we continue this exciting phase of recruitment and strategic planning. We want to hear from you!

Mis​​sion

The mission of the Section on International Medical Graduates is to optimize the skills and position of IMGs to improve the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. This mission will be accomplished by understanding and fulfilling the professional needs of our members.

Goals ​​and Objectives

• Identify the IMG population, their professional needs, and conduct outreach to engage (or re-engage) them with the AAP.

• Increase the leadership skills and role(s) of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) in the American Academy of Pediatrics.

• Increase participation of IMGs in activities that support local and global disaster relief efforts as well as pediatric workforce issues.

• Increase participation of IMGs in priority international child health efforts.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to early career IMGs.  ​​
