Pediatricians Learn All About Kids With This One Weird Trick
PSA from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Watching a parent and child read a book – no matter how young the child is – shows a pediatrician a lot of important information. Doctors can pick up on things like:
- Speech and language
- Fine motor skills
- Home environment
- Print awareness
- Relational health
Reading books together helps children develop and families bond in so many healthy ways. That’s why the American Academy of Pediatrics released a policy statement with recommendations on how pediatricians can incorporate books into their medical practices and help families spend more time reading with children. Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, chair of the AAP’s Council on Early Childhood, takes a look at the surprising things children learn – and when they learn them – through the simple act of reading a book with someone they love.
